Will My Insurance Cover Your Services?

Approximately 95% of Nutrition HealthWorks clients are fully covered by insurance for their nutrition services. Nutrition HealthWorks bills insurance for nutritional counseling under preventive care. Preventive care is intended to help you stay as healthy as possible and includes routine screenings, checkups, and patient counseling to prevent illnesses, disease, or other health problems. Preventive services are often covered with no copay, coinsurance, or deductible.

We are providers with the insurance companies listed below. Coverage can vary by plan, so if you’d like us to verify benefits prior to scheduling, please use the Contact Us form. Every client receives a document reviewing their coverage before their appointment.

We also provide a superbill for any client not covered by the plans below, allowing you to submit it to your insurance for possible reimbursement.

Do I Need a Referral?

If you are covered by Medicare or Medicaid (see the descriptions of what is covered below), you have to have a referral. Most other plans do not require a referral, but we may need information such as a diagnosis code from a recent doctor’s visit, a chart note, or lab results from the past year.

Having these documents can often help maximize your insurance coverage. You will be able to upload these documents to your account or have them faxed to us at 704-680-6672 once you have been scheduled.

Medicare Part B
Medicare ONLY covers medical therapy for diabetes and chronic kidney disease. A referral from your provider prior to your appointment is required for us to bill any Medicare plan. Coverage is 3 hours in the first calendar year you receive nutrition therapy by any dietitian and 2 hours every year after that.

Medicare Supplemental Plan
These plans don’t provide any extra coverage for nutrition therapy. If Medicare Part B won’t cover it, a Medicare Supplement Plan won’t either.

Medicare Advantage Plan
We are only in network with BCBS and Aetna Medicare Advantage Plans. These plans most often only offer the same coverage and requirements as Medicare Part B.

MEDICAID

NC: We are providers with WellCare, Healthy Blue, Carolina Complete, and Medicaid Direct (Original Medicaid). A referral is required prior to the appointment to bill services to Medicaid for pediatric clients.
