NUTRITION COUNSELING
FOR EATING DISORDERS

For most people recovering from or living with an active eating disorder, it is important to see a licensed dietitian with experience treating eating disorders. Those with eating disorders should ensure that the dietitian is willing to work with the rest of their treatment team and is a good personality fit.

BENEFITS OF EATING DISORDER THERAPY

Nutrition counseling typically includes education on various nutrients and how your body uses them to function at its best. You will learn how your metabolism works and how to recognize physical cues of hunger and fullness. Your dietitian at Nutrition HealthWorks will coach intuitive eating strategies to help you accept and respect your body’s needs.

If needed, a dietitian can create non-diet eating plans, such as the use of modified exchanges, the plate method, and pattern guides to help you meet your goals. Dietitians are able to help you figure out what is true and what are disordered thoughts surrounding food, eating, and/or exercise behaviors. Dietitians also can monitor your weight to make sure that you are achieving and/or maintaining a healthy weight for your age, gender, and activity level.
